Take Care Of Cracks & Receding Mortar Joints In Your Flue Liner With HeatShield®

Do you have cracks in the tile of your liner or gaps in the mortar joints holding the tiles together? Both types of damage can allow heat, smoke, and combustible deposits to access the framing around the chimney and put you and your family at an increased risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. But what can be done? Do you have to go through the laborious, messy, and expensive process of having the entire clay tile liner torn out and replaced? What a nightmare! We’re happy to say that, thanks to HeatShield®, you don’t have to even consider a total tear out and rebuild!

HeatShield® is a cerfractory foam system that repairs and restores clay tile liners that have undergone damage, be it due to heat, moisture, house settling, severe weather event, or just age. Here are the three different options for repair and restoration:

  • Crack/Joint Repair — For cracks and receding joints here and there, the flue is prepped and swept, the cerfractory sealant is applied to the crack or receding joint, and a customized foam applicator is used to smooth the product in place.
  • Flue Resurfacing —For flue liners that are damaged in multiple spots and could use a fresh surface, the flue is prepped and swept, the cerfractory sealant is poured down into the flue, and a customized foam applicator is used to smooth the product over the entire surface of the flue.
  • Flue Relining — When extra strength is needed and the entire flue could use repair, the flue is prepped and swept, the cerfractory sealant is poured down into the flue, and a customized foam applicator is used to smooth the product over the entire surface of the flue. Next, a specialized sleeve is slipped down into the flue, and the cerfractory sealant is poured down into the flue to create a sealant layer on both sides of the sleeve.

And don’t worry — you’l lbe able to see the difference when we’re finished! After each and every HeatShield® repair, we’ll perform a video scan of the flue to make sure we’ve taken care of each and every damaged spot.
