More About Sweepnman & Our Mission

Sweepnman Chimney Sweeps is in the business of keeping homes and families safe. We strongly believe that if people learn the facts about their chimneys, a lot of tragedies will be prevented.

Each year in the United States, carbon monoxide poisoning claims more than 400 lives and sends more than 15,000 people to the hospital. Part of our mission is to bring these numbers down to zero, which is why we recommend that every floor of your home be equipped with a carbon monoxide detector.

Another potential danger we work to prevent is chimney fire. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are more than 20,000 chimney fires a year, right here in the U.S. During a chimney fire, temperatures in the flue can exceed 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, and flames can leap out of the chimney top or travel through cracks in chimney walls. These flames can ignite the roof or other parts of your home as well, allowing the fire to quickly grow and spread.

How do we help reduce these numbers and keep our neighbors safer? By educating our customers and providing thorough and proficient services. Following are some of the many services we offer to help our neighbors in North Reading, Westford, and the surrounding communities reduce their risk of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning and increase their enjoyment:

How It All Began

Sweepnman has been serving loyal communities in the area since 2004. So how did it all begin?

Dave Bancroft graduated Reading High School in 1985. The following Monday he went to work for a local mason and artist in his trade named Mike Savarino. Over the course of the next four years, Dave learned the meaning of hard work and was instructed on all aspects of masonry construction.

On Dave’s very first job with Mike, they dismantled the existing fireplaces in a brownstone in Boston’s historic South End, and built five new Rumford style fireplaces in a five-flue chimney. They then replaced all of the original marble veneers and mantels (surrounding the fireboxes). Together, they went on to build several more fireplaces and chimneys from the ground up, and Mike taught Dave masonry restoration, waterproofing, and stucco techniques.

Although they made a great team, Dave always wanted to be his own boss, so he set out and started his own company. He saved up his money and bought a chimney sweeping kit from August West Systems in 1989, and began his career as a chimney sweep. Although Dave embarked on many other career paths over the years, he continued to sweep, repair, and restore chimneys, and incorporated Sweepnman in 2004. He is now certified by the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA), the National Fireplace Institute (NFI), and the National Hearth, Patio & Barbecue Association (NEHPBA), and is licensed as an MA Oil Burner Tech, an MA Home Improvement Contractor, and in Solid Fuel Construction.

Education and training has always been important here at Sweepnman, which is every every single technician is CSIA- and CDET- certified. We also receive ongoing education through the National Chimney Sweep Guild (NCSG), the NEHPBA, the NFI, and the Massachusetts Chimney Sweep Guild.
